Background
About Jozua van Otterloo
Whether in Publishing of books, Geology or Ministry,"Inspiring people to fulfill their God-given potential", is what drives Jozua van Otterloo. Jozua has significant experience in publishing printed and digital materials both as an academic, author and pastor. He can help people share their story with the world. Inspiring people to inspire others. Being an all-round geologist, Jozua has a broad interest in many geological subdisciplines like Sedimentology, Structural Geology and Igneous Petrology. However, his expertise is in the areas of Physical Volcanology, Igneous Geochemistry and Magma Transport Dynamics. He loves inspiring people with the beauty of nature that is uncovered within these fields. Current research topics Jozua is involved in include- The Newer Volcanics Province in south-eastern Australia - the latest phase of volcanic activity in Australia that produced a large lava field marked with explosive volcanoes formed by magma-water interaction- Hyaloclastite formation and quench fragmentation processes - for a long time geologists have recognised hyaloclastite and deposits related to quench fragmentation, however, very little is known about the actual dynamic processes of glass formation and fragmentation in natural volcanic settings. Materials engineering encompasses an extensive literature record of glass fragmentation processes which can provide a scientific framework for natural quench fragmentation in volcanic environments- Magma transport and intrusion dynamics - mafic (iron- and magnesium-rich) melts travel through the Earth's crust via a network of vertical and horizontal cracks called dykes and sills. How do these dykes and sills form, what are the effects of crystallisation and tectonic stress, what are the reasons that some magma batches never make it to the surface and others cause volcanic eruptions, how does all this relate to mineralisation processes of economic deposits? These are questions that are currently of great interest.
