About Juan Menchero

I'm a trained cultural historian with a genuine passion for communication. I do research and work both as a university professor and fiction/ non-fiction editor and literary translator. I also write things the stage, I'm a playwright with a broad set of skills. I am an expert in modern and contemporary culture and media practices. I work in academia, which has allowed me to become a research specialist. I have excellent organizational skills as well as a phenomenal intuition for that which holds value in a creative project. I also teach, and know how to design appealing courses on any humanities subject from scratch. In the theatre, I dig for new ways of approaching the old, and for old problems in recent works. I localize the content of plays and use my research alongside the artistic crew that runs a production, to make it an even better audience experience. I have a talent for writing short, concise presentations that make even the most difficult topics easy to approach. I am a highly versatile producer who knows all the stages and tasks involved in a theatre production. I have been in charge of casting, script analysis, and stage direction at Spain's Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico, in the 20/21 season production "Fandangos y tonadillas"(January 2021). I have done similar things, here and there, always in the best company. My role in the theatre is to ensure project consistency. I pitch untrodden concepts and ideas to producers and artistic heads, and help them with information useful for the advancement of the theatre industry. As a dramaturg and stage manager, I supervise the different tasks leading to the staging of a play from beginning to end. Often this includes being in charge of the writing and editing of scripts, press releases, or managing Q&A sessions, as well as coordinating other aspects of a production besides rehearsals. Fluent in English and Spanish, also in French.
