About Jude Sears

Over the past two years, my college journey has been marked by a blend of academic learning and hands-on professional experiences. While balancing school and work, I've had the opportunity to explore different interests and develop various skills shaping my future career. My first experience in the professional world began with working at John Brown University's campus store and mailroom. I began in this role the summer after freshman year and continued into the semesters. This experience taught me customer service skills, inventory management, and the importance of organization, communication, and efficiency. It also honed my attention to detail. Transitioning from the campus store and mailroom to a DevOps engineering internship at the DaySpring headquarters was a significant shift. This role has allowed me to immerse myself in technology and operations on an IT development team in an office setting. Over the past four months, I’ve been working mostly on one project, consolidating code and implementing DevOps principles and techniques like CI/CD, IaC, and version and access control. This hands-on experience has been invaluable, offering insights into the complexities of maintaining and optimizing infrastructure. Throughout both roles, I’ve developed a range of skills that are critical for my career growth. My time at the bookstore developed me in several ways as already mentioned, but also taught me to be confident in asking questions if I didn't know how to do something. My internship has deepened my technical skills in areas such as cloud computing, scripting, problem-solving, and collaboration among developers, and also improved my ability to allot time for a project and gauge how long a set of tasks might take. The blend of these experiences has equipped me with a versatile skill set that I’m eager to continue developing. As I move forward professionally and with my academic career, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead in the tech industry. I’m particularly interested in exploring further opportunities in DevOps and cybersecurity, where I can leverage my skills to solve complex problems and contribute to innovative solutions.
