About Judith Jaekel

As a synthetic biologist with a PhD from ETH Zurich and over eight years of experience in academic research and industry, I am passionate about cotributing to bring innovative therapy approaches to life. My field of expertise is synthetic biology in mammalian cells, with a focus on adenoviral and lentiviral vectors, synthetic DNA/RNA constructs and libraries, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and RNA interference and science communication. During my PhD and postdoc at the Department for Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH Zurich, I designed and evaluated novel synthetic DNA systems for gene delivery, gene regulation, and gene editing, using a variety of methods such as flow cytometry, epifluorescence microscopy, and qPCR assays to investigate mRNA levels after siRNA treatments. In a second project, I developed a method to characterize functional genomic elements in mammalian cells. I also instructed and advised the iGEM team 2019 ETH Zurich, which won a gold medal and a special prize for their project on bacterial lysis. I am now looking for a new challenge in a motivated and creative team where I can apply my skills and knowledge to develop cutting-edge solutions for biotechnology and medicine.
