About Julen Bollain Urbieta

I’m Julen Bollain, PhD in Development Studies and specialised in basic income. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have worked to build a fairer and more sustainable future through research, political engagement and teamwork. My path took me from Eibar to cities such as Brussels and Oxford, where I trained in Business Administration, International Management and International Relations. In 2021, I completed my PhD in Development Studies with a dissertation on the economic feasibility of a basic income in the Basque Autonomous Community. I have also published several academic articles on basic income, distributive justice and sustainability in journals such as Basic Income Studies, Journal of Poverty and Social Justice and Poverty and Public Policy. I currently coordinate the Research and Knowledge Transfer Team (I+T) in Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Business Studies at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, where we lead projects related to sustainability, business intelligence, financial innovation, digitalisation and the social economy. I also teach as a guest lecturer in the postgraduate programme Analysis of Capitalism: Republican-Socialist Tools at the University of Barcelona. I speak Basque, Spanish, English, French and German. I’m always open to learning, collaborating and contributing to initiatives that promote social justice and transformative development.
