About Julia Bernal

Julia Bernal is an enrolled tribal member at Sandia Pueblo but also have lineage to Taos Pueblo and the Yuchi people in Oklahoma. She has her BA in English and Literature from the University of Redlands. Currently she is working towards her dual-masters in Water Resources and Community and Regional Planning at the University of New Mexico. In 2014 she obtained a Water Resources Technician Certification from the BIA through the Native American Water Corps. She was awarded with an AmeriCorp Internship at the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge education youth on watersheds and water quality. She is the current Executive Director of a grassroots Climate Justice organization called Pueblo Action Alliance (PAA) which is a community driven organization that promotes cultural sustainability by addressing environmental and social impacts in indigenous communities. The organization is Indigenous women, femme and 2-spirit led organizing engaged in grassroots organizing efforts and public education for Pueblo community members and beyond. She is the board chair of the Native Lands Institute and on the advisory council for the Restoring Balance Collaborative at Red Star International.
