About Julia Bradshaw

Julia Bradshaw is Associate Professor of Art and New Media Communications in the School of Visual, Performing, and Design Arts and School of Communication at Oregon State University. She teaches history of photography, all levels of photography and video art classes, and landmarks in media content. Her videos and photography have been exhibited in the United States, The Netherlands, Guatemala, and Germany. Her artist book “Flying” is in the Getty Research Collection. Her artwork 'circle' and 'yellow and green stacks' is in the public art collection at Western Oregon University. Julia Bradshaw was on the board of the Society of Photographic Education West from 2009-2012 and was the co-chair of the SPE West region from 2009 – 2011. She was the chair of the SPE North West regional conference in Corvallis, Oregon (2017). In addition she was the co-chair for two SPE West regional conferences in Oakhurst (2010) and in San Diego (2011). Julia Bradshaw has had several reviews published in afterimage: The Journal of Media Arts and Criticism and has written over twenty articles for the online blog ArtShift San José. Her research essay on the photography in the Fresno Feminist Art Program was published in the spring 2011 issue of Exposure, The Journal of the Society for Photographic Education. Currently she is interested in the role of photography and the 'post-medium condition' as described by the theorist Rosalind Krauss. Julia Bradshaw is also a curator: for her latest curatorial project she assembled artworks and organised workshops on the topic of "Totality" in conjunction with the 2017 solar eclipse at Oregon State University. Other exhibitions included a suite of exhibitions in conjunction with the SPENW conference at five venues throughout Corvallis. She also curated an exhibition on the topic of Air Travel which exhibited in Fresno in September 2011. Please see the website for a list of recent exhibitions and artist projects.
