About Julia Cheung

Excited to be starting this new role as Deputy Head of Safety Services at the University of Manchester, after over 4 years as the Safety, Compliance and Risk Manager within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. In the role I'm leaving behind, I oversaw the management of all aspects of health, safety and compliance in a large and complex organisation. Duties included risk management, resource allocation, safety inspections, and provide ongoing advice to promote safe working practice. Strategic planning and implementation of new facilities is also a large part of my job. I was involved in a very exciting 7 year, £400M+ Engineering Campus Development project which has become the new workplace for over 6500 students and 1200 staff. This new building is providing amazing teaching and learning opportunities. In addition I have over 12 years of experience working in a laboratory environment, conducting technical procedures, managing scientific data, contributing to high impact publications and presenting findings at international conferences.
