About Julia Craig

I have a combined honors degree from Carleton University in Biology and Humanities, and graduated with a Masters of Science from the University of British Columbia's Institute of Resources, Environment, and Sustainability. During my studies, I engaged with various aspects of wildlife conservation, including analysing critical and supplemental habitat, monitoring wildlife and surveying, interviewing stakeholders, and making recommendations to local government based on research findings. I thought critically about ‘natural’ and ‘urban’ ecological systems by collecting data in the field, analysing geospatial data with ArcGIS, and through storytelling. I am particularly interested in the way that animals interact with (and are affected by) urban environments, as well as the way that their presence in cities may benefit people. I want to continue to explore strategies that promote biodiversity while also meeting the needs of local communities. I am interested in: Ecology, biology, environmental science, habitat restoration, protecting threatened species and habitat, ecosystem services, socio-ecological systems, policy analysis, creative and scientific writing, problem-solving, supporting local and Indigenous communities, engaging with stakeholders, and conservation policy.
