About Julia Fair

I taught general music and band at Barranca Mesa Elementary for 7 years, with students from preschool through 6th grade. While there, I planned and coordinated several music programs and band concerts throughout the year, as well as two all-district concerts with the music team, held choir and swing dancing activities and performances, included co-curricular lessons, and provided students opportunities to not just perform music, but to create their own music and experience it with one another. I would also compose and arrange music for performances. As well as my official position at Barranca, I also was the co-director for Atomic City Children's Theater (ACCT) since its founding in 2008, producing and directing 10+ productions. This proved to be one of the most educational activities I lead as a teacher in Los Alamos Public Schools. Not only does musical theater teach singing, dancing and acting, but it also gives real-world experience to subjects such as reading (scripts are literature) and math (counting, proportion, measurement, etc.). Along with the academics comes a rich experience in the creative process, and when fostered in a safe community, students build self-esteem, public speaking skills, teamwork, time management, goal-setting, and most of all the ability to dream! I teach privately: flute and voice lessons, beginning guitar and piano lessons, recorder and music theory. My professional goal is to show each student that education is a gift and a tool that opens possibilities for students in anything they desire to do or learn about. Specialties: Play flute and piccolo, singer - soprano, music composition and arranging, social dance instructor, choir and band director, jewelry designer and instructor.
