About Julia Garon-Bissonnette

As a researcher in the field of developmental psychopathology, I strive to provide scientific knowledge aimed at mitigating the intergenerational repercussions of childhood maltreatment and mental health difficulties. Specifically, I study parental representations, including reflective functioning and mental representations, and how they are shaped by one’s developmental history and in turn influence caregiving behaviors and child development during infancy and early childhood (pregnancy-4 years). I am passionate about how caregiver and child individual, interpersonal, familial, and psychosocial risk and protective factors interact and are associated with caregiver–child interactions in daily life and infant behavioral and socioemotional development. I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at Vanderbilt University, Peabody College, affiliated with three laboratories in developmental psychology, clinical psychology, and special education.
