About Julia Gilstein

I am an editing, writing, production, and project management professional with experience in educational publishing, content marketing, and tutoring academic writing. I continuously strive to learn more and to improve upon my skills. I am currently the Editorial Production Manager for NEJM Catalyst, a publication I helped launch in 2015 centered on innovations for improving health care delivery — a mission I strongly believe in. I focused my prior career on educating readers through academic publishing in a variety of subjects. With a background in editing, writing, website production, and social media, I understand that clear and engaging communication is not just about the content, but about its presentation. In 2021, I was promoted from Online Editor to Manager, Editorial Production. I sit on various NEJM Group improvement committees, including as a founding leader of the diversity, equity, and inclusion council. Outside publishing, I am the lead organizer for New England Aces, a community and advocacy group for asexual and aromantic individuals. I hold a master’s certificate in publishing from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in English and history from Colby College, where I was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude. I have a comprehensive understanding of Chicago, AP, and MLA style guidelines, and familiarity with AMA style. I am also proficient in a number of editing, production, and publishing platforms, including but not limited to eXtyles, Adobe InCopy, Dreamweaver, and Campaign, WordPress, Oxygen XML, Atypon Literatum, and Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
