Background
About Julia Hall
A FRESH VOICE FROM THE SCHOLARLY WORLD Julie Hall, Ph.D. is Full Professor in the Doctoral Program of Educational Leadership at D'Youville University. She is a well-established scholar with extensive knowledge on human rights, human trafficking, discrimination, and on child, and adult abuse in institutional settings. Her expertise involves policies such as Title IX, and Title VII. Her knowledge continues to be deeply grounded in 20+ years of scholarship and teaching in higher education. She is an expert in planning large-scale research projects and developing protocol. Trains teams on data gathering competencies, ethics, reflexivity, software systems, and outcomes measures to support large investigations. Adept at managing cross-functional teams to drive performance and productivity. Fast learner and highly adaptable to rapidly shifting priorities. For instance, when she took over as IRB Chair for the university, she digitalized the entire process, co-created a shared IRB, implemented CITI training, and created Data Use Agreements. When the 2018 Common Rule changes rolled out, she directed this phasing in across campus. This included education, creating a Study Closure Process, and Conflict of Interest Protocol for IRB members. She steered the committees through COVID, and under her watch, the OHRP and DHHS designated the IRB as having a pristine record. She is author of four books, two having won national scholarly awards. These titles include Female Students and Cultures of Violence in Cities (2016) and Children’s Human Rights and Public Schools in the United States (2013). Her other peer-review output encompasses 70+ peer journal articles, book chapters, and national/refereed presentations. Dr. Hall sits on the editorial board of a journal (15+ years) and is peer review editor for several others. She has been PI on extensive research studies. In her 20+ years teaching in higher education and directing doctoral students, she continues to receive numerous awards. Dr. Hall is an invited plenary speaker at several universities in the US and internationally. As the Director of the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership at D'Youville University, her mission is to prepare transformational professionals to meet the social, economic, political, and cultural challenges now confronting educational institutions and society. This Doctoral Program is noted for developing future generations of dynamic, social justice-oriented leaders.
