About Julia Ivan

I am working for social change and justice by improving human rights framing capacities of civil society and connecting the dots. Currently, I mostly enjoy facilitating workshops to inspire NGOs to work on their framing and narratives and better understand their audiences. I was trained as a human rights lawyer and researcher, and worked as consultant, and NGO manager. I have experience in NGO management, strategic thinking, human rights campaigns, media work, PR and education. Leadership experience: interim director at Amnesty International Hungary: 2017-2018 representative of the organization, focus: human rights work, planning: quality & growth. Other professional areas I gained experience in- Project coordination on border monitoring at external EU borders of Hungary with UNHCR- Research projects on asylum, legal aid system, family reunification of refugees, rights of unaccompanied minors, immigration detention, assisted voluntary return procedures and the EU’s Dublin II system, right to education of refugee children in Hungary, deportation practices affecting irregular migrants in Hungary, penitentiary regime, right to defence in criminal procedures- Legal practice: representation of asylum seekers in individual asylum and immigration proceedings before administrative bodies and in strategic litigation before the ECtHR in Article 3 and 5 related cases- Reporting: shadow reports and monitoring detention conditions of third-country nationals and asylum seekers on a regular basis in Hungary, as well as expulsion practices of Hungarian authorities- Training: human rights for police officers, lawyers, judges, etc. in HU, ENG, and FRA.
