About Julia Maggio

Graduate student at The George Washington University currently pursuing my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with aspirations to eventually work in either a forensic or military setting. Magna Cum Laude Honors graduate from East Carolina University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology and Criminal Justice with a recognition of outstanding graduate within the department of Psychology. Experiences in both legal and mental health settings, with a passion for being active in my community and serving as an advocate for those who may not have the resources and ability to advocate for themselves. Currently working as a mental health support professional as a Recovery Support Specialist at Gateway Homes (NOVA Region- Intensive), providing direct clinical care to a diverse range of clients within the northern Virginia region living with serious mental illness such as Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, etc. Operating within a person- centered therapeutic approach, I am well versed in de-escalation techniques, person- centered & Cognitive- Behavioral Therapy clinical interventions, as well as group and individual skill- building. I am Red Cross CPR and TOVA trained, as well as skilled in managing a medication cart. I am certified in administering medication, and use this time to provide daily psychotherapy surrounding the importance of upholding their medication regime. I work in collaboration with each individual’s treatment team consisting of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, case managers, and general primary care physicians.
