Background
About Julia Martinez
My lifelong passion for helping others to recognize and achieve their fullest potential has led me to the field of youth justice. As a student at Boston University studying Education and Human Development with a specialization in Youth Justice and Advocacy, I've expanded my knowledge on a wide breadth of topics ranging from equitable educational practices to the youth justice system. My experience working as a visitor experience ambassador at Boston Children's Museum has solidified my desire to continue to work with and for youth as an advocate for education justice and promoted access to the arts. Moreover, my internship at Citizens for Juvenile Justice working on the Raise the Lower Age brief has vastly promoted my understanding of the ins and outs of policy work, how it affects youth firsthand, and how I can play a role in promoting policy that has the power to change lives. I am currently working on completing a capstone project with a group of six of my fellow graduating seniors specializing in Youth Justice and Advocacy entitled "The Neighborhood Project". This is a youth-led semester long art exhibition that we are currently facilitating and curating which will consist of pieces created by roughly seventeen youth from neighborhoods all around Boston with the expressed goal of shedding a light on the pride and hardships that exist for teens living in Boston in our current age. Looking forward, I hope to continue to pursue work in youth justice and continue to develop my skillset as an advocate for equity and the arts.
