About Julia Moraes

I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, where I graduated as an Architect from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the São Paulo University in 2014. Still as a university student, I began to investigate ephemeral architecture, focusing my work on theatrical scenography and exhibition design, assisting set designers, visual artists and architects, such as Laura Vinci, Vera Hamburguer and Álvaro Razuk. Once I graduated, I moved to Santiago de Chile where I assumed as Chief Architect in SUMO Architecture and Design, participating in various projects and phases of the exhibition design development process; concept, content, script, setting, spatiality, exhibitive and interactive modules, coordination of graphic and lighting teams, up to construction and implementation. My portfolio includes both permanent and temporary exhibitions of various themes, highlighting my international work in prestigious institutions such as La Moneda Cultural Centre, Chile's National Museum of Fine Arts, Chile's National Centre for Contemporary Art and the SESC group. In 2019 I received the Chile Design Award, in the Environment and Spaces category, Museography subcategory, for the exhibition Theo Jansen, Wind Algorithms, developed at SUMO. I currently live in Lisbon, Portugal.
