Julia Poepping is an information systems professional with deep experience in enterprise level business systems. The majority of her career has been in industrial manufacturing working with various business units and functions. Her hands-on experience ranges from custom application design and development to decision support and expert systems as well as project and program management. In support of information systems, Julia has experience in customer service, production planning and logistics, purchasing of hardware/software/services, corporate contract negotiation and information security. Julia currently works with the Carnegie Mellon University undergraduate information systems (IS) program to coordinate the capstone consulting course and to develop and manage community partner relationships in support of that service learning course. Carnegie Mellon's undergraduate IS program is the top-rated information systems program in the country and the capstone consulting course is often cited by alumni as one of the best experiences of their undergraduate career. The program has provided IS solutions to more than 100 non-profit and mission based organizations in Pittsburgh and remotely over the years. She founded and runs RedChairPgh, a non-profit that advocates for and supports mid-career women in technology. Since 2015, RedChairPgh has provided leadership development scholarships to more than 50 women in the Pittsburgh region. She received her undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems from University of Wisconsin, Madison and her MBA from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business. In graduate school she did independent studies in simulation methods with the faculty there.
