About Julia Rooke

I'm self-shooting Producer/Director with a strong track record in character led documentary and investigations. My films have been screened by the BBC, the National Geographic Channel, Investigation Discovery and Al Jazeera. I have also made in-depth observational documentaries over several months in order to get intimate access and show how my characters change over time. My journalism has been honoured by the Foreign Press Association and the Sony Radio Academy. My first documentary about a Turkish human rights lawyer fighting was screened at the London Frontline Club and international film festivals. Before becoming a freelance film maker I worked for BBC News & Current Affairs in TV and Radio on the award winning foreign affairs series 'Crossing Continents', World War Two History documentaries and investigative strands File-on-4 and the 5 Live Report. I've worked in: Poland, Moldova, France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Egypt, Turkey, Cyprus, USA. I specialise in Poland and Turkey. I'm bi-lingual in Polish and fluent in French.
