About Julia Solo

Julia presently serves as Senior Vice President and Counsel for Federated National Land, an MWBE Title Company certified in NYC and NJ. Julia works on numerous complex affordable housing transactions throughout the New York area. Julia's long history as an attorney specializing in the development of a range of affordable housing, including housing for homeless and special needs populations, provides her with a unique skill set with respect to her provision of substantive assistance to projects in the land and title arena. Prior to joining the Title Insurance world, Julia spent 15 years working as an attorney specializing in affordable housing transactions. During that time, Julia closed a diverse portfolio of complex projects including supportive housing developed by non-profit developers, tax-exempt bond and credit projects, HUD financed projects, and a range of preservation deals. She has represented tax credit equity investors and is aware of owner and lender needs in the affordable housing sector. Julia has been Acting Chief Legal Officer for the New York Equity Fund (NYEF) and New York City LISC where she oversaw all closings as well as provided legal counsel and guidance related to Low Income Housing Tax Credits, deal structure and financing. Prior to NYC LISC, Julia worked at Nixon Peabody LLP, representing Low-Income Housing Tax Credit syndicators and working on tax-exempt bond and Low Income Housing Tax credit deals nationwide. Before her work with Nixon Peabody, Julia served as an assistant general counsel for the National Equity Fund. Julia began her legal career at HUD Headquarters in Washington DC, and subsequently in HUD's New York Office. Julia is currently co-chair of the New York City Bar Association Committee on Housing and Urban Development after serving for 3 years as an Executive Committee Member. She also sits on the Board of the New York State Association for Affordable Housing. Julia served for 6 years as the Vice President of Programs for Women in Housing and Finance. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Affordable Housing.
