About Julia Streit

As a first year J.D. candidate at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law in the Intellectual Property (IP) Law Track, I am passionate about the intersection of science and law in the context of patents. I earned my B.S. in Biology with a specialization in Cellular Biology and Molecular Genetics from the University of Maryland. I have also completed 3 years of research in molecular biology and biochemistry during my time at the University of Maryland. My curiosity in IP Law started during my mock trial experience in high school when one of my coaches recommended I combine my interests in law and biology. I decided to earn my undergraduate degree in biology while gaining more knowledge and experience in patent law. That led me to an externship at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) where I gained hands-on experience with patent applications, drafting, and the review process. This experience not only deepened my understanding of the intricacies of patent law but also solidified my commitment to pursuing a career in this field. I am particularly interested in how IP law can promote innovation and protect the rights of inventors. As I advance through my legal education, I look forward to connecting with professionals and organizations who share my passion for intellectual property. I am eager to learn from people's experiences and insights and explore opportunities to make a meaningful impact in the field of IP law.
