About Julia T.

Ever since I discovered Alvin Schwartz's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series, I have always found horror to be my #1 genre to enjoy in speculative fiction, because it instills different sensations; a heart fiercely beating, ears pricking upwards, eyes growing in shock, and the sensation of adrenaline surging the body as terror builds further in the story. I feel the same way about science fiction and fantasy! The awe-moments just spring up from the pages for me. As the years have passed, I've dedicated myself to reading horror stories by traditionally underrepresented in the publishing industry, and this is not only due for an adrenaline rush, but it is to see the craft, writing techniques, support these authors, and demonstrate the growth of the horror and speculative genre. With an interest in technology, I pursued my education at Northern Virginia Community College, and transferred to Marymount University as student in Information Technology. Thinking back to my love for horror stories, I decided to also attain an education in English in order to find ways to combine desire to combine the study of speculative fiction, writing and technology together. I have written academic essays related to my interests in horror and how themes of gender and/or identity are represented in these stories. Various of my academic papers have been recognized for panel discussions, which has allowed me to travel to different literary conferences in the US, and gained further insight on how I can further combine literature and technology can be combined. For my senior project, I constructed a case-study focused on and presentation on Blockchain Technology as a beneficial tool to construct a high-awareness, security, and quality of data ownership in the News Industry. This project was construct in efforts to demonstrate that an interest in English and Technology is possible. As a bookseller, I continue to use my expertise in technology to provide the best recommendations on tech manuals and guides on different software and hardware, and discuss with management of marketing strategies to present underrepresented authors in the speculative fiction genre.
