About Julia Turner

I am an experienced research associate with strong writing skills and a passion for social and policy research in various fields. Specific interests and areas of experience include sustainability and climate change, economic development, and education. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and impeccable time management are hallmarks of my work ethic. I am currently a Senior Research Associate and leader of the research and communications team at SubjectToClimate, a nonprofit that aims to connect educators with unbiased, credible, and free resources about climate change education. In this position, I led a capstone case study on climate change education in New Jersey following an update in the state's student learning standards which requires climate change to be taught in all subjects and grade levels. I have provided numerous other written deliverables, including a thought leadership article discussing climate change education as an effective mitigation strategy and a piece on climate change education in New Jersey to be published to funder networks. I also draft grant proposals in my position. While dancing full-time, I completed my undergraduate studies through Harvard Extension School, where I graduated with a degree in Economics with a minor in English in November of 2021. I graduated cum laude and was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda, the oldest and largest national honors society for non-traditional students. During my studies, I completed multiple faculty aide assignments with professor James Carras, an adjunct faculty member at the Harvard Kennedy School and community redevelopment expert. These assignments included completing case studies of how different affordable housing and community redevelopment projects utilized various funding tools, as well as analyzing data to draw demographic conclusions about specific locales. My work with Professor Carras extended beyond faculty aide projects to his consulting company, Carras Community Investment, where I still engage in project-based research work.
