About Julia York

Hi!My name is Julia York and I am currently a student at Toronto's Sheridan College studying music scoring. After almost 3 years attending the University of Toronto for a History degree, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in the field of music, as it has always been a passion of mine. Currently, I am in the process of establishing a freelance business where I create different musical compositions that are tailored to the client's requests. I aim to combine effective self-marketing, customer relations, composition/production and audio engineering, to allow ease of communication and workflow. However, because I am still soaking up all the information from my program and want to be certain of my abilities before marketing myself, so the project is still in its early stages.For almost 10 years, I have been involved with the NGO 'We'(formerly Free the Children) and have been on 5 of their international volunteering trips and had the privilege to speak at the opening of the first Ottawa We Day in 2014, alongside my father Jeff York. These experiences have greatly contributed to my leadership skills and have allowed me to diversify my perspective on the world around me. I have done part-time work since the age of 16 and have done various different things, yet all primarily focus on customer service. I enjoyed each of these jobs and revealed my other passion for meeting and talking to new people and greatly influenced my idea to incorporate that personal touch into my freelancing. I learned that I thrive in a dynamic career that is a source of new learning opportunities. I would consider myself to have a very outgoing and open nature that allows me to be comfortable talking to anyone. Also, my years spent in musical theatre and group-centric jobs have made me greatly effective in team environments.
