About Julia Young

I am profoundly interested in stewardship of the environment - from a rights perspective, from a social perspective, and from an environmental perspective. How can we know when stewardship is true, positive, impactful, and will be sustained? I've had the chance to put this curiosity into direct learning and practice, and lead engagement of business communities on global forest issues, undertake policy advocacy and campaigning, working on how to achieve and sustain improved and sustainable forest management worldwide, and take the experiences of this work and widen them to recognizing the value of the natural world for societal resilience. I thrive in designing robust, incisive, collaborative strategies and advocacy for actions that have great and sustained impact, and which enable the thoughtful sharing of perspectives that help build the common understanding needed to secure a community or movement for effective change. I am working for the HCV Network (HCVN) which is a member-based organization and Secretariat, the global steward of the HCV Approach—uniting science, policy, and practice to protect the world’s most irreplaceable natural and cultural values. For over 20 years, the Network has helped drive responsible development that respects ecosystems, communities, and climate goals.
