About Julie Cunningham

Julie is an experienced, highly motivated and results-orientated senior legal executive with 20 years professional legal experience. Julie has specialised as an in-house general legal counsel, and has worked in multinational and listed organisations based in Johannesburg, South Africa. As such, Julie has been fortunate to have been extensively involved in various strategic corporate and commercial transactions and projects, including various M&A transactions; group debt facilities; a convertible bond transaction; share buybacks and rights issues; advising on complex multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects; and engaging with Regulators where required. Julie has a proven track record in training and managing in-house legal teams and engaging effectively at all levels within the corporate environment. In addition, Julie has been responsible for successfully managing a listed group’s material litigation across various jurisdictions; providing tender and project related advice and support; managing a diverse intellectual property portfolio; chairing a group’s standalone pension and provident funds; advising on Companies Act and JSE listings requirements; providing advice and guidance on governance and ethics related matters; and overseeing a group’s legislative and regulatory compliance program. Julie has legal advisory experience across various industries and sectors, the majority of which has been in the engineering, energy and infrastructure sectors, but also includes facilities management and business outsourcing services. Two keys lessons that Julie has learnt over the years whilst working in highly pressurised environments, are to maintain a sense of humour, no matter what, and to always remain humble.
