Background
About Julie Kramer
I believe there is always something more to learn and that each person I meet knows something I don't. Over the past eighteen years, I have been involved with a variety of cultural resource management projects and academic research throughout the western United States, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai’i, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. I received my B.S. degree in Anthropology with an emphasis on archaeology and a minor in Geology from Weber State University and have completed coursework for an M.S. in Archaeology at Idaho State University (ISU). While at ISU I managed a student faunal osteological reference lab and worked with modern and archaeological osteology collections at the Idaho Museum of Natural History. My work experience includes archival research, survey, testing, data recovery and monitoring projects. Clients include state and federal agencies including the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, military agencies, and small to large private clients from a multitude of industries including various mining industries, natural and other gas pipelines, transmission lines, road improvements, agriculture, grazing, fire surveys, and recreation. My excavation experience includes both prehistoric and historic habitation sites, and assisting with osteological human remains recovery, with lab analysis of prehistoric faunal and lithics and historic artifacts and faunal collections. I have performed a variety of duties serving as a field director/crew chief managing all in-field aspects of projects, performed pre-field literature searches including identification of resources found on historic maps, preparing letter reports and narrative sections for technical reports, and compiling data for report appendices. Part of my duties included evaluation of cultural resources, clear communication to clients and agencies of possible impacts to cultural resources, addressing and working to avoid potential impacts, and recommendations for the protection and preservation of archaeological and historical resources.
