Background
About Julie Soloway
As a key member of Canada’s top competition law practice, I advise both domestic and foreign clients on all aspects of competition law, with a particular emphasis on multinational mergers and acquisitions. I also provide advice on strategic alliances, unilateral conduct cases, criminal and civil investigations and compliance matters. For the last 15 years, I’ve been at the forefront of the most complex and high-profile Canadian and cross-border transactions. I’ve led numerous multi-billion dollar global transactions, many of which have significantly altered the business landscape within their industries. My special expertise in relation to the Investment Canada Act and the State-Owned Enterprise Guidelines has been successful in securing approvals for foreign investors in many of Canada's key industries, such as oil and gas, pharmaceutical, financial services and technology. Outside of my billable work, I’m committed to the mentorship and advancement of women in the profession. In 2014, I co-founded the Canadian Women in Competition Law group — the only group of its kind in Canada — which filled an important gap for women in the Canadian Competition Bar by establishing a network for discussions and mentoring as well as providing educational programming on niche areas within competition law. In 2015, I co-authored Leading the Way: Canadian Women in the Law, an inspirational book which documents the journey of 50 Canadian women whose tenacity affected change for women in the legal profession. I held a leadership role in the American Bar Association’s Section of Antitrust Law for more than eight years, and am Co-chair Elect of the International Committee. I was recently named one of the Global Competition Review's 100 Women in Antitrust 2016, featuring elite women in private practice, as well as a number of expert economists, in-house counsel, enforcers and academics around the world.
