About Julika Radecke

I am an experienced Cryo-EM Specialist with a PhD in Neuroscience and a diverse career spanning both academia and industry. My expertise lies in advanced imaging techniques, including cryo-electron tomography, correlative light and electron microscopy, and confocal microscopy. Over the course of my career, I have gained extensive experience in managing electron and light microscopes, overseeing day-to-day operations, user training, support, and collaborating closely with engineers to optimize instrumentation. After completing my PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Bern, focusing on cryo-electron tomography, I moved on to a postdoctoral position in Copenhagen, where I developed a novel method for growing primary neurons on EM grids. This laid the groundwork for my subsequent role as (Senior) EM Scientist at Diamond Light Source, where I deepened my expertise in method development. Currently, I serve as an EM Manager and Senior Scientist at LBEM, EPFL, where I continue to drive cutting-edge research, work in a dynamic team, and am leading a method development project in the realm of advanced high-resolution electron microscopy. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of supervising a range of students at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels, further enhancing my leadership and mentoring abilities. I’m passionate about advancing our understanding of complex biological systems through innovative imaging techniques and am always open to new opportunities for collaboration and growth.
