About Julio Cedillo

I’m a fourth-year undergraduate in the Department of Sociology at UC Berkeley. I’m a prospective PhD student with interests in theoretical, economic, political, and anticolonial sociology. Before Berkeley, I studied at San Diego City College, earning three associate degrees in Sociology, Chicana/o Studies, and Social & Behavioral Sciences. My associate theses investigated the impacts of hyperconsumerism and surveillance among Starbucks stores, medical assimilation among low-income diabetics, and the policing and redefinition of masculinity in college fraternities. I am affiliated with UC Berkeley’s George A. Miller Scholars Program and a Faculty-Mentored Undergraduate Research Fellow in the Latinx Research Center under Associate Professor Armando Lara-Millán. In addition, I currently serve as a student advisor for UC Berkeley’s Latinx Thriving Initiatives and lead the Latinx Sociological Association along with fellow sociology majors.
