About Junhee Chung

As a project manager with over two years of hands-on experience in human-centered design, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work on projects that prioritize user needs while also diving deep into the intricacies of technology. My journey started at UC San Diego where I led a studio at Design for America—guiding over 40 designers through the complexities of the design process and creating educational materials that made learning engaging. Currently pursuing my Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Michigan has further fueled my passion for creating intuitive user experiences—especially within automotive technology. I'm particularly excited about designing interfaces like heads-up displays (HUDs) and infotainment systems because I believe they hold immense potential to enhance driver safety and enjoyment on the road. In my role as a Project Manager Fellow at the University of Michigan’s Center for Academic Innovation, I've been involved in establishing strategies for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). This has not only sharpened my project management skills but also allowed me to collaborate across various domains such as copyright and accessibility—ensuring our designs are inclusive for all users. Beyond technical skills like Figma and Adobe XD—which I use daily—I bring an empathetic approach to teaching human-centered design principles. Working as an Academic Coach at High Tech High allowed me to mentor 60 high school students, focusing on project-based learning while accommodating those with special educational needs. This experience taught me how important it is to adapt designs based on individual requirements—a valuable lesson I'll carry into every project. When I'm not immersed in projects or classes, you can find me connecting with fellow designers through local meetups or volunteering my time mentoring young changemakers through workshops focused on mental health initiatives.
