About Juno Zavitz

Juno Zavitz (they/them) is a thanatology and harm reduction specialist with a deep affinity for the heavy soul-work of substance use care, harm reduction, and dying and grieving. Their background in these fields of care comes from post-secondary educational experience in social service work, end of life care, and visual arts. Juno has been working in the bereavement & harm reduction sectors since 2016, where they have experience in counselling, frontline, program development & coordination, outreach, and psychoeducational roles across Ontario, British Columbia, and New York City. They are the founder of and current Program Coordinator at GLoW: the Grief, Loss and Wellness Initiative at Breakaway Community Services, Canada’s first direct service worker wellness program within the overdose crisis. They are also a 2022 recipient of the United Way Bhayana Family Foundation award for Creativity and Innovation within the social services sector. They have held positions in frontline harm reduction and addictions counselling in community settings, shelters, and residential treatment. They currently serve on the Board of Directors for a prison-justice and post-carceral care organization, and provide volunteer-based end of life care at a Toronto-based hospice.
