About Justin Wiley

My entrepreneurial journey began at UC Berkeley, where I studied in the College of Natural Resources and co-founded BicyCal, a student-run bike shop and campus bike share program dedicated to making transportation more accessible. After graduating, I launched Green Bike Share, one of the first dockless bike share systems, deploying automated locking tech that helped drive the industry’s early growth. In 2012, I joined Social Bicycles - later rebranded as JUMP Bikes - as the second employee and VP of Business Development. Over six years, I helped scale the company globally, building partnerships that ultimately led to JUMP’s $200M acquisition by Uber in 2018. At Uber, I served as Head of Business Development for JUMP, helping to deploy bikes across 22 cities and 9 countries by supporting the development of the charging infrastructure network needed for micromobility systems to scale. Expanding my focus to public transit, I joined Swiftly to develop strategic partnerships that advanced transit technology and improved system interoperability. My work centered on aligning agencies with open data standards to create more efficient and accessible transportation solutions. After Swiftly, I worked with startups like Denizen (sustainable 3D printing), scaled Replo (YC S21) from $0 to $2M ARR in under a year, and founded Ascend Labs to help early-stage companies grow by building scalable go-to-market systems. In late 2024, I returned to UC Berkeley as the Strategy & Development Director at the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS), where I’m currently focused on expanding ITS’s $25M annual research funding. Through public-private partnerships, industry consortia, and innovative funding models, I’m helping drive solutions to critical mobility challenges.
