About Juulia Jokelainen

I am a 27-year-old store manager and cosmetics salesperson from Helsinki. I have my master’s degree in Romance philology, and I also studied English and social sciences as my minor subjects. My interests include different languages and cultures, travelling and also cooking. I'm a happy, empathetic, and open person, and I'm not afraid to try new things and take on a challenge. In the future, I would like to be in a job where I can use my language and social skills as widely as possible. The spectrum of my previous jobs is very colorful, and the work I have done has not been limited to just one field. I have also been able to work with people of very different ages, which I feel have been very important experiences in terms of my social skills. When you combine this with the studies I've completed so far, my knowledge of people and general ability to understand others has increased. I feel that I am socially very natural and I adapt to the people around me very quickly. I approach everyone in a way that the situation requires, which makes me a nice colleague. Although extensive language skills are generally part of general knowledge in working life, I still feel that it is also substantive knowledge for a language expert. During my school career, I have studied a total of five languages, and I have been sharpening my French language skills in particular as an exchange student in Switzerland, where I had to use a relatively foreign language in a completely new environment. I have been able to collaborate with other students on translations, and together we have been able to solve difficult situations and decide on the right translation method to suit the task/situation in question. For a language expert, it is also essential to produce different texts, which I have been able to practice, for example, during my internship at the French Institute, where I produced e.g. social media posts and a newsletter, as well as in the "Monialainen kieliasiantuntija työssä" course, where we worked in small groups on strategy for the degree program. In several courses and in various working life situations, I have been able to organize and manage my own or a group's activities in the most efficient way possible, and I even find it natural to take care of this area of responsibility.
