About Kabelo Mphakathi

I am a civil engineering student at the University of the Witwatersrand, where I am pursuing my BSc degree. I have a passion for learning and applying my knowledge to real-world problems. I am also a Wits First Year Experience Mentor at the Wits Development and Leadership Unit, where I help first-year students adapt to university life and culture, and provide them with guidance and support.As a Wits First Year Experience Mentor, I use my communication and organization skills to facilitate workshops, events, and peer mentoring sessions for incoming students. I also collaborate with other mentors and staff to design and implement effective strategies and interventions to enhance student success and retention. In addition, I have gained valuable experience in water reticulation as a vacation student at HWA Engineers and Project Managers, where I assisted and observed a project in several villages. I learned about the various aspects and challenges of water engineering, such as excavation, pipe laying, and soil profiling, working alongside an experienced geotechnical engineer. I am eager to continue developing my skills and expertise in civil engineering, and to contribute to the improvement of infrastructure and quality of life in South Africa.
