About Kacey Link

I am a pianist, educator and author residing in Santa Barbara, CA. I have performed and lectured throughout the United States, Mexico, Argentina, France and Switzerland. I have diverse interests and expertise in music and am equally comfortable playing Chopin etudes, Piazzolla tangos, and contemporary musical theater. As an advocate of new music, I recorded the CD, Small Town (Centaur, 2017), featuring the music of Ori Barel. I have also appeared on NACUSA Concerts, and most recently performed Katherine Saxon's "From Paris to Helen" on the LA Chapter's 85th Anniversary Celebration Concert. In past seasons, I have served as music director or accompanist for Out of the Box Theatre Company, Opera Santa Barbara, Kansas City Lyric Opera, and New Theatre of Kansas City. I also have accompanied classes for such prestigious artists as Marilyn Horne and Yo-Yo Ma. In the realm of dance, I have worked with UC Santa Barbara and accompanied classes for Heather Watts, Deborah Wingert, and Mark Morris Dance Group as well as Interlochen Center for the Arts and Cecchetti Exams and Summer Institutes. In 2015, I was the music director for Adam Barruch's DANCEworks residency at the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara and his new dance/theater production of Sweeney Todd. As a scholar, I specialize in the tango. I am the co-author of Tracing Tangueros: Argentine Tango Instrumental Music (Oxford University Press, 2016), which explores the history of Argentine tango and its creators. I also contributed to the article titled "Tango: A Primer" for Chamber Music Magazine, Summer 2018 and frequently review books in pre- and post-publication. As an educator, I maintain a large piano studio in Santa Barbara and work frequently with students in Ventura College's Opera and Musical Theater program. My private piano students participate in programs and competitions with MTAC, MTNA, and National Reflections Program. Currently, I teach online private and group piano lessons. I have studied with Sequeira Costa, Mark Ferrell, Robert Koenig, and Jack Winerock. I hold degrees from University of California – Santa Barbara (D.M.A. in Keyboard), University of Miami (M.M. in Musicology), and University of Kansas (M.M. in Accompanying, B.M. in Piano Performance).
