Background
About Kai Tegethoff
As a draughtsman and civil engineer, I enjoyed a substantial scientific education. I then worked for almost seven years as a research associate at TU Kaiserslautern and TU Braunschweig in the fields of hydraulic engineering and coastal engineering. During this time, I was passionately committed to innovative teaching and continued my education, particularly in the field of university didactics. I have been politically active at Volt since the end of 2020 and was elected to the Braunschweig City Council for Volt in the 2021 local elections. Until mid-2024, I gained my first experience in politics here as a council member, group chairman and parliamentary group manager. For the 2024 European elections, I stood in third place on Volt's German national list and was elected to the European Parliament, where I have represented Volt Europe since July 2024 as coordinator of the Greens/EFA group on the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), as well as a substitute member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and the Committee on Budgets (BUDG). In my parliamentary work, I am committed to: 1. Improve the attractiveness of rail transport by improving the booking and ticketing system, strengthening passenger rights and developing and harmonizing rail infrastructure, 2. Ensure the sustainable adaptation of infrastructure to climate change by developing an efficient European approach that favors long-term and nature-based solutions that support climate change mitigation, 3. Support the transition to sustainable mobility by promoting the modal shift from road to more sustainable modes of transport and by electrification of road transport, 4. Empower consumers for the green transition by improving public information and by pricing the cost of unsustainable products and practices, 5. Restructure the European budget so that it efficiently serves the implementation of sustainable solutions, supports all our European values and promotes the same in the national budgets of member states and third countries.
