About Kaila Folinsbee

I'm a higher education professional with over 20 years of teaching, administration, and research experience in science and higher education. As Director of Administration for the Faculty of Engineering, I provide leadership, professional guidance, and advice to the Faculty of Engineering; evaluate overall effectiveness of procedures in the Faculty and its units and ensure compliance and consistency with best practices; lead harmonization and transparency across administrative and academic units; and ensure quality control and appropriate internal and external communication. From 2018 to 2022. I was Associate Director of the McGill Engineering Student Centre (MESC), overseeing the strategic direction, management, and operations. In addition to management of the Centre’s team, I led the strategic planning of all programs and services within the MESC portfolio, ensuring quality and raising awareness of these programs and services among stakeholders.My previous position at McGill was Senior Grants and Agreements Officer in the Office of Sponsored Research; in this role, I negotiated contracts and agreements with corporations on behalf of researchers, and supported grant applications for industry-sponsored projects, strategic networks and large team grants. Prior to coming to McGill, I was the Research Coordinator at Dawson College.For five years, I worked as Assistant Professor at Iowa State University in the Department of Anthropology. My research focussed on primate evolution and biogeography, specifically why organisms are distributed in particular areas over time. I love teaching, especially Forensic Anthropology and Skeletal Anatomy - students are fascinated with bones! I love to travel - as an anthropologist and palaeontologist, I've worked in South Africa, the Yukon, Siberia and the Badlands of Alberta.
