About Kairan Wang

I'm Kairan, a Master's student at UC Berkeley specializing in IEOR (Industrial Engineering & Operations Research) with a background in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Philosophy (epistemology & logic). My experiences span Mathematical Modeling, AI/Machine Learning, and Enterprise Resource Planning, all grounded in the power of data. My interests can be well-described by the famous quote (possibly) from Einstein:"Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler." The most valuable takeaway from my past experiences is the analytical mindset of "mathematical abstraction"- crafting mathematical/logical representations that capture essential features and relationships within complex systems without oversimplifying. In other words, I find immense satisfaction in understanding how things work. I was fortunate to design my own educational journey. Having 9 years of (unconventional) homeschooling experience before high school, I explored my life possibilities across the world. Until now, I have received education in China (Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai), U.S.(Hawaii, Berkeley), UAE(Abu Dhabi, Dubai), and Greece(Athens). From leaving the traditional classroom as a child to entering higher education in STEM as a woman, I've never been constrained to any predefined framework and remained consistently motivated to push my boundaries. On a creative note, I'm also a digital artist! I draw sketches of my daily life and FanArts for the movies/games that I like. Surprisingly, I find connections between art and other quantitative work that I do; both involve concretizing abstractions into tangible forms. Check out my portfolio below.
