About Kaitlin Laverty

I received my PhD from the University of Toronto in the Department of Molecular Genetics where I was co-supervised by Dr. Tim Hughes and Dr. Quaid Morris. I am a Computational Biologist who enjoys working at the intersection of functional genomics and machine learning. My PhD work mainly focused on designing and implementing computational methods for the discovery of comprehensive specificity models for RNA-binding proteins (Laverty et al. 2022) and the investigation of unconventional RBP specificities (Ray, Laverty, et al. Early in my PhD, I was also involved in the generation of the first physical and genetic map of Cannabis sativa (Laverty et al. During my time in graduate school I have presented my research at conferences in Canada, the USA, and Barbados, including an oral presentation at the 2020 Cold Spring Harbor meeting “Systems Biology: Global Regulation of Gene Expression”. I have also been involved in conference organization. In 2018 and 2019 I was part of the organizing committee for the Annual Concordia Systems Biology Workshop, and in 2019 I was invited to serve as an Abstract Referee on the CannMed Advisory Committee.
