About Kaiyi Lu

Hi, It is Kaiyi here. I am originally from China and currently live in Halifax, Canada, for more than 4 years. I received my Bachelor degree from Saint Mary`s University in 2019, majored in Linguistics. At the same time, I graduated from Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, under Teaching Chinese as Second Language. During the school year, I devoted my life motto- Creatively Study and Practically Apply in reality. In China, I volunteered as a language partner for the Confucius Institute from UK,US, Italy and Norway. I was a teaching assistant for the NSLI-Y program (High school students from America come to China to study Chinese under governmental support), and the Chinese Study program under Saint Mary`s University. In Canada, I was invited by my Professor to work as an assistant in a research program for a semester. After school, I volunteered in Halifax Chinese Language school as a language teacher to teach young local kids Chinese. To enrich my social experience, I also recommended by my Professor to work as a Chinese teacher under a online Institute. Other than that, I was working part-time at local Chinese restaurant, called Happy Veal. After graduation, I continued to work in the local restaurant and gained the supervisor position. I not only got my Permanent Resident status but also gained a lot of work skills here. Being a supervisor, I have to micromanage everything in the restaurant. In this case, I developed great time management skill, good at communicating with people, fluently using English and switching between languages I Know, using computer and handling daily calculation, working under pressure and etc. Thanks to the trust from my boss, I also managed the recruiting process. I am believing in my insight and I have confidence in reading people. What is more, the job also built up my leadership skill. Now, I am actively looking for a new job and hoping to explore what is more out there that I can do.
