About Kalson Abdi

Dedicated Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Professional with combined experience in advocating for equitable policy for new immigrants and First Nations in Canada to access higher education and employment, and over 10 years in Strategic Communication in the humanitarian and non-profit sectors in Canada, Kenya and Somalia. My "WHY". I'm motivated to make the world a more inclusive place for all because I know what it feels like to be discriminated against because of what I look like and my beliefs. We all deserve to have the same opportunities and to live in a more equal world. I support managers and organizations in creating a more equitable and inclusive environment, to help their employees reach their full potential, and build a culture of trust and respect. It all starts with the leadership and organization culture setting the right tone for employees and other stakeholders. I help them do that by: 1. Conducting Needs Assessment: To gain an unbiased view of where the organization is now (what's working, what's not working and collect recommendations how to improve the situation). Develop a Diversity and Inclusion Strategy: A plan to create a supportive and inclusive environment of trust and respect. Action Plan Implementation: Applying the strategy. Facilitation of Trainings 5. Developing Leaders through Cultural Intelligence (CQ), making them more effective and inclusive. Effective Diversity and Inclusion, creates an environment of trust and respect where employees feel safe and able to speak up.
