About Kane York

Hi, I'm Kane—a Neuroscientist and Data Scientist, motivated by the potential of data to drive meaningful insights and promote human well-being. I’m eager to bring my skills as a PhD researcher into new settings where my expertise, and data can be leveraged for positive impact. My journey started with a deep fascination for the mind and brain, which led me to earn a bachelor’s in Psychology and then pursue a PhD in Neuroscience. For years, I explored these fields, using statistics and coding (Python and R) as core tools in my research. Over time, though, my interest shifted from the brain itself to the quantitative methods I used to understand it. This shift led me to dive into advanced statistics and computational approaches, transforming how I approached research. To deepen this focus, I took advanced courses in statistics and computational modeling and directed my research toward Bayesian methods and other complex approaches often beyond standard training in my field. This focus on data-driven problem-solving even expanded into my hobbies. I began to wonder about the probability behind D&D encounters and the skill-based multiplayer matching systems. One significant outcome of these musings was a tool to predict combat difficulty in D&D games, thanks to a collaboration from friends! Now, as I complete my PhD, I’m excited to tackle new challenges where my skills in human research, data analysis, and quantitative modeling can make a difference.
