Background

About Kanika Chandra

I chase the molecular ‘whys’—why cells survive, adapt, or die under stress—and how we can turn those answers into therapies” I earned my Bachelors in Biochemistry and master’s in Biotechnology, which laid the groundwork for my deep interest in cellular functions and molecular mechanisms. Continued with my curiosity, I have always been to associate with research projects to develop cellular and biochemical assays and invitro models to uncover insights into intracellular complexities. I am excited to make contributions to translate fundamental cell biology into innovations that target metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer and other diseases such as aging, muscular dystrophy or cardiovascular diseases. Over the past 6+ years, I’ve: Decoded mitochondrial quality control—My PhD work revealed how PHLPP1 regulates PINK1-Parkin mitophagy and lifespan (BBA, 2023), sharpening my expertise in the significance of mitochondrial remodeling in organelle crosstalk and stress signaling. Advanced metabolic checkpoint research—As a postdoc, I’ve characterized MAPK-dependent cell cycle regulation in cancer models, integrating siRNA and CRISPR-mediated genetic tools, proteomics, and in vivo tumor xenografts to pinpoint signaling nodes exploitable for therapy. Bridged discovery and mentorship—From developing mitochondrial functional assays to guiding undergraduate trainees, I’ve learned the value of scientific rigor, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing. Core Strengths: Mitochondrial biology | Metabolic signaling | Cell cycle regulation | Mitochondrial morphology analysis | Immunofluorescence | Flow Cytometry | CRISPR knockout & Tet-On Induced system stable cell generation | Cell synchronization & cell differentiation | 2D & 3D cell culture | siRNA & shRNA mediate RNAi | Cellular functional assays | Transcriptomic data analysis | Proteomic data analysis | Cloning | Co-immunoprecipitation | Invitro phosphatase assay | Western Blotting | cDNA synthesis & qPCR Other skills: Scientific communicator | Maintaining records & documentation | Collaborative mindset | Adaptable learner What’s Next? I’m excited to collaborate in cutting-edge research that transforms molecular insights into therapeutic interventions, particularly in cancer and metabolic disorders. Always open to connecting with fellow scientists, biotech innovators, and research leaders who share this vision.
