Background
About Kaoru Ando
My name is Kaoru Ando, and I am a student at Temple University Japan. When I was 15 years old, I moved to the United States. I have studies at the international high school in Forida for 4 years and at the university for 3 years in California. Major: College of Liberal Arts Sociology Major Women's Studies (General Study, Sociology, Women Studies) The reason why I majored in sociology and women's studies in the College of Liberal Arts is because I wanted to spend my precious time at university studying the fields in which I had a strong interest in high school. When I took a lecture on class Gender & Society, I learned how gender and sexuality are socially constructed values. I was able to figure out what I was feeling unfairness and uncertainty. In particular, when I took a lecture on Japanese society and Women, three of my classmates and I wrote a thesis on the health of single mothers. In the process of previous researching and interviewing with single mother support facility staff, I learned how Japanese laws, cultural customs, and political structures create gender inequality and affect people's lives. In my major, I have been through collecting a lot of resources on various themes, and I have done a many analyzes and reflections both individually and as a group. Among them, I especially learned to "act proactively" and "solve questions as quickly as possible without putting them off." When I was doing research for my long essay assignment, I worked backwards from the due date, planned resources and interview scheduling early, and made sure I could get feedback from the professor a few days before the submission deadline. During the group work in the lecture I took in the third year, I had to write a long paper and create presentation for a short period of three weeks. So, I created an opportunity to consult with the members, planned the division of roles for each person, and discussed with the professor many times about the points that were unclear about how to do the assignment. As a result, we were able to create a thesis and presentation within the deadline and each member was able to demonstrate their abilities.
