About Kara Downey

The skills and knowledge gained from over ten years of working with individuals with disabilities and the professionals who support them, combined with my personal experience as a sibling of an adult with disabilities, has given me with a well-rounded and expansive lens into policy and service provision that translates into a real change. In my roles I have supported the training and management of direct support professionals in caring for people with disabilities, monitored services and developed quality assurance recommendations for a major city department, tracked policy and engaged stakeholders in advocacy efforts, and managed a state training and technical assistance center. I am a driven, compassionate, and detailed-oriented person who enjoys working with a dedicated and creative team to ensure programs and policies are person-driven and evidence-based.
