About Kara Epple

I'm interested in the earth sciences, particularly in hazards posed through natural and human activity that require emergency response evaluation, site investigations, and remediation. I have a particular interest in AML and natural disasters and yearn to acquire a better understanding of the relationship between human activity and geologic hazards. I enjoy studying what risks natural and constructed hazards pose in coupled systems, and how these events impact infrastructure, water resources, cultural resources, and geology in the surrounding regions. Otherwise, I'm a laid-back field scientist who loves the outdoors. I enjoy working in remote areas with a small but clever team for extended periods of time. As well as in companies where opportunities for travel and encouragement of new ideas, education, and personal/professional growth are available. I have immensely enjoyed positions that allowed me to work outside or in a lab setting where creativity, innovation, problem solving, and sometimes a bit of duct tape are highly valued.
