About Kara Mitchell

Storytelling is an art. It is a powerful means to influence, teach and inspire. It takes creativity, skill and practice. It can take many forms and it is often a trial and error process. But with most stories, the interaction comes from the relationship that the audience builds with the storyteller. That is one key thing I’ve learned while working as the Hope and Belonging Associate at IDEAS xLab - an artist-run nonprofit organization where we recognize that art is storytelling and we proactively seek to unearth and honor community stories that transform people, spaces and cultures. Working with IDEAS xLab has led me to develop a passion for storytelling and marketing. What was supposed to be a 12- month gap year before starting my graduate program has since then turned into an incredible opportunity to stay with the IDEAS xLab team to continue working on the '(Un)Known Project'.I am a first generation college graduate and Kentucky native, born and raised in Louisville. I’m my best when working to solve a challenge and collaborating with people with diverse perspectives. Whether I’m supporting project management and implementation, including coordinating with partners, organizing meetings, and processing documentation, or leading community outreach and communications efforts for multiple projects and initiatives, including developing and deploying social media strategies, I have a unique ability to plan and manage projects and tackle challenges. As a researcher, writer and editor, and strategist, I am looking to take what I’ve learned about storytelling and marketing and developing it into so much more.
