About Kara Patterson

I'm a writer/storyteller/communicator who views my work in all I do as a passion and a mission in service to the global community. As a former newspaper staff writer of 14 years, I am excited about seeking/pursuing freelance writing and editing projects in this season of life. Currently, I'm a Client Care Specialist/caseworker at World Relief Wisconsin. I'm also a certified mental health peer support specialist (Certified Peer Specialist/CPS) in the state of Wisconsin. I'm an advocate for the arts, literacy, education and mental health/wellness/recovery. I am the secretary of the Fox Cities Book Festival Board of Directors and am a member of the Caneille Regional Development Fund Board of Directors. My family and I volunteer with and fundraise in support of Roots Ethiopia, a nonprofit based in Madison and Ethiopia. Roots Ethiopia cultivates culturally informed responses to prioritized needs – including education - for vulnerable families and communities in Ethiopia’s southern region. I volunteer with internal and external community service at our family's church, Oakhaven Church of Christ in Oshkosh. With my family, I participate in the Friendship Family Program at Lawrence University in Appleton.
