About Kara Predmore

When I graduated high school in 2013, I was set on becoming a veterinarian. I changed my mind about my entire future during my first semester of college. Then I changed it again my second semester after realizing that I am not a whiz at cellular and molecular biology. When I told my new advisor that I wanted my major to be English, I had no idea what my plan was. Maybe I would teach. Maybe I would move to sleepy little New England town and work for a small publisher. I was excited for whatever came next regardless. I fell in love with Linguistics. I thought that reading novels and having discussions about literature would be my favorite part of my English degree. My favorite classes were actually for my Linguistics minor. I graduated in December 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts. I applied to be a substitute teacher while pursuing alternative certification so that I could eventually teach full-time. While waiting for more information about the substitute teacher position, I received a job offer for a full-time position working at SFA. It was not what I expected to do, but I have enjoyed it nonetheless. In my current position, I have learned much about the university, my office, the state, and myself. I have learned how to efficiently use my time, how to work both independently and as part of a team, and how to navigate my job in the face of natural disasters, COVID, and personnel changes. One of my main goals in life is to always continue learning. I hope to learn in each new position I have and I am continuing my education by pursuing a Master of Arts in English.
